Liquid analysis
Characterization of the kind of water to treat is the preliminary stage for identification of the chemical, physical and biological technologies more suitable for achievement of goals. At first, it is therefore necessary an analysis for determination of its physico-chemical and microbiological composition, that is of categories and concentration of pollutants and pathogens. Samples, that have to be sent in safety conditions, according to liquid transport laws, are analyzed from qualified laboratories, using the more advanced instrumentation. Jointly, are acquired the technical sheets of products employed in industrial cycle.

Process design
The knowledge of composition of water to treat allows the design of more efficient treatment process for pollutants removal, considering also treated water destination (human consumption, civil or industrial use, recycling in working process, discharge in surface water). Effluents flow rate determines plant’s dimensions. Feasibility studies forecast assessment of return on investment, very important factor for choice of plant’s installation and treatment technologies, that needs an of different items of capital expenditures (CapEx), as building materials, and operating expenditures (OpEx), as energy consumptions, manpower necessary for plant management, maintenance and worn-out components replacement. In general, pollutants concentration and possible sub-products recovery allow a reduction of disposal fees. The planning includes the study of the best logistical solution, on the basis of evaluation of the more appropriate areas and available places for plant positioning. In some cases the use of mobile units represents the more convenient option.

Energy audit
In feasibility studies are conceived technological answers allowing to optimize the energy output of plants. The experience in processes design allows indeed to recognize the treatment phases causing the bigger energy consumptions and to forecast exploitation of energy sources possibly generated from system. In many cases, realization of intervention for plants energy balance improvement qualifies for obtaining energy efficiency certificates, dispensed from energy management authority, representing financial benefits that accelerate the return on investment.

Pilot plant test
At the end of treatment process design, to confirm its feasibility, is planned a trial period – that can last from two weeks to three months – with a pilot plant, installed in production establishment. The test of treatment performance, needed to verify the respect of pollutants concentration limits in discharge water established from law, is an indispensable stage before plant start, especially in this sector, in which the outcome obtained also with use of the same technology are particularly influenced by variation of operating conditions.

Plants management
After the plants installation, takes place the trial of hydraulic and electromechanical components. Particular attention is reserved to training of technical staff: generally the manpower need is limited, thanks to automation of several sections of plants and to possibility of remote monitoring. The working of each section of plant is periodically controlled by means of analysis of treated water samples, that verify its compliance to fixed standard.
